Alice Ann Walker Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Alice Ann Jensen Walker passed peacefully from this life on June 28, 2022 at the age of 85. A tireless servant throughout her life, Alice leaves behind a legacy of love, selfless giving, and devotion to family. Always the first to arrive and the last to leave, Alice eagerly attended to the needs of others at family gatherings (immediate and extended), cared for neighbors, and served at church functions. She frequently hosted large family dinners until only recently and generally had to be urged to sit down with the group—usually a futile request as she first made sure everyone’s needs were met. She subscribed to the newspaper perhaps to read it but mainly to take it to her neighbors for their enjoyment. Alice was known by her 23 grandchildren (and their spouses) for her always-full cookie jar with delights “you can eat before a meal,” amazing cinnamon rolls, and homemade bread. Her mantra was “if you want your batch of bread to turn out well, always give a loaf away.” Her seven children best remember her as a source of sweetness—an able listener and provider of “hot cakes,” “pop,” and candy bars at the right moment (her candy bars were stashed in various places—an unintended but life-long treasure hunt for her family). Born October 12, 1936 in Rigby, Idaho to Vernal and Geneve Jensen, Alice graduated from Rigby High School in 1954 and reunited regularly with classmates until only recently. She studied at Ricks College (now BYU-I) where she was a champion typist (135 words per minute on a manual typewriter). She met M. Clyde Walker in 1957 on the dance floor, and the two of them instructed youth throughout the Upper Snake River Valley on the finer details of ballroom dance for several years. They married later that year and danced gracefully to big band music until Clyde’s passing in 2016. Alice moved away from her beloved, multi-generational Idaho home in 1976 to Orem, Utah but her heart never really left Idaho. Perhaps more than most, she “felt” and honored her pioneer roots, amassing file cabinets full of family histories and pedigrees that she widely shared with others. We suspect in addition to meeting her husband, parents, and two sisters who preceded her in death, countless others on the other side are now embracing her saying, “You’re Alice! THE Alice that did all the history for us!” Alice actively participated in life—playing softball, a pageant judge, an entrepreneur, a BYU volleyball fan, full-time work as a medical office manager, cooking for the pioneer wagon train commemoration in 1997, hosting guests at Walker’s Cafe until 1975 and Macks Inn (1972, 1975), visiting her siblings, and Church missions to BYU Hawaii, Philippines, and Las Vegas North. Whatever her church calling, she always served willingly and gave what she had. Alice is survived by her sisters Marilyn Buck and Karen Jenkins, brothers Paul Dean Olsen and Pete Jensen, seven children (Ronda Weaver/Scott, Sheri Gibb/Mark, Brett Walker/Kristin, Maria Wiscombe/Lawrence, Craig Walker/Paige, Vick Birkeland/Scott, and Scott Walker/Marissa), and 23 grandchildren (plus their spouses she considered her own), and 30 great grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held Friday, July 1st, at 11:30 am, at the Cherry Hill 5th Ward located at 135 East 2000 South, Orem, Utah, where a viewing will be held prior to the service from 9:30 to 11:00 am. Interment will take place Saturday, July 2nd, at 1:00 pm, in the Lewisville Cemetery, Lewisville, Idaho.
