Barbara Hill

February 23, 1948 - September 9, 2018

Barbara Holdaway Hill, 70, much loved by her children, grandchildren, siblings, and many friends, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, September 9, 2018. Barbara was born February 23, 1948 in American Fork, Utah. She was the fourth of six children born to Robert David Holdaway and Edna Fugal Holdaway. She is survived by all her siblings: Jeanne Turner, Steven Holdaway, David Holdaway, Boyd Holdaway, and Debbie Hunt. She grew up in Pleasant Grove, Utah, and attended BYU in Provo, Utah. She married Floyd Allan Hill, Jr., the love of her life, on June 8, 1967 in the Salt Lake Temple. They lived a happy adventure together for 33 years, making homes in Maryland, Germany, Oklahoma, Utah, and Peru. Her favorite adventure was their six children. She is survived by five of her children: Allan (Kimberly) Hill; Angela (John) Jorgensen; LeeAnne (Brian) Adams; Valerie (Greg) Wahlert; and Russell (Katie) Hill. Their second son, Floyd Andrew Hill, died shortly after his birth in Berlin, Germany. She lost Floyd to leukemia in 2001, but found comfort and purpose in her family and friends. Barbara worked for Jordan School District and later for Canyons School District, eventually becoming the manager of the Teacher Resource Center. She found her work there rewarding and valued the friendships she formed. She retired late in 2014 and embarked on another adventure, moving to San Diego to be closer to some of her children and to help with the care of her newborn grandchild. She enjoyed the sun and sand for two years, until ill health prompted her to return to her home in Sandy. Always thoughtful and practical, Barbara faced her illness bravely, and was grateful for the many kindnesses of family, friends, and neighbors. She treasured the time she had, and her greatest concerns were not for herself but for those she loved. In addition to her siblings and her children, she is survived by eleven grandchildren and the great many people whose lives she touched. Her family would like to express appreciation to the Huntsman Cancer Center, the nursing staff at Alta View Hospital’s Infusion Center, and to the Community Nursing Service hospice team, for the excellent care they provided for Barbara during her last days. Funeral Services will be held Friday, September 14, 2018 at 11:00 am at the Eagle Cliff Ward, 1600 East Buttercup Drive, Sandy, Utah, where a Visitation will be held prior to services from 9:00 to 10:30 am. Interment in Pleasant Grove City Cemetery, Pleasant Grove, Utah. Funeral Directors: Utah Valley Mortuary.
