Betty Haymond
July 26, 1926 - August 16, 2020
Our sweet mother, Betty Russell Haymond, slipped away peacefully in the morning hours on Sunday, August 16, 2020 at the age of 94. Mom was born on July 26, 1926 to Henry Franklin and Julia Fish Russell. She was the fourth of seven children. Her early years were difficult as her father passed shortly before she was two years old. Extended family rallied around the young family, and though hardships continued, love was ever present. Upon her mother’s remarriage they moved to Whiteriver, Arizona where two sisters and a brother joined them. Childhood days were filled with laughter and time spent outdoors in nature, and paper dolls from the Sears Roebuck catalog. Mom loved to sing and was in a trio with her Peele cousins in her youth. In adulthood she happily sang for many years with the Musettes organization. The summer prior to her senior year she worked for the telephone company, later graduating from Mesa Union High. She continued her studies at Brigham Young University where she met our father L. Wood Haymond. He worked construction to support the family. They lived for a few years in a trailer before building a home in Springville. As a homemaker she spent many hours in the garden and orchard picking and preserving produce. She loved travel and was a master Skipbo player. She held a deep and abiding love for her Savior Jesus Christ, unfaltering in her faith. Her multitude of journals, notebooks and scrap pieces of paper filled with notes attest to her love of scripture. She held many positions within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; Primary president, Trekker teacher, Stake Relief Society board and later serving an extended mission call to the Provo MIssionary Training Center. She loved the Provo temple and spent many hours doing ordinance work. Most assuredly Mom loved and adored her family and friends and acquired quite the fan club membership through her generous and loving nature. She was a true angel on earth and will be missed deeply by so very many. She is survived by her children Vicki Haymond (son Russell, deceased) Julie (Mikel) Axelgard, Valerie (Scott) Staheli, Eric (Ann) Haymond, grandchildren: Stephanie, Deacon, Jasen, Tye, Marcie, Kyle, Devan, Brock, McCall, Jens, Jon, Greer, Bradon, Brittney and 37 great-grandchildren. Additionally, her brother Joseph Russell. Preceded in death by her husband L.W. Haymond; son, Russell Haymond; great-grandson Joshua Axelgard. Her brother Cyrus Russell, sisters Norma, Dorothy, Billie, and Hazel Lee. A viewing to be held Thursday, August 20th, in the Springville Stake Center, 245 South 600 East Springville at 10:00 a.m. Funeral services at noon followed by interment at Springville Evergreen Cemetery, Highway 89 at 1997 South 400 East Springville. Please abide by current face mask/ social distancing protocols. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Humanitarian fund.
