Carol Jean Trousdale
March 22, 1924 - October 23, 2020
Carol Jean Marx Trousdale, 96, of Lindon, Utah passed away on October 23, 2020. She was born on March 22, 1924 at the family home and farm in Sterling, Sanpete County, Utah to Ervin and Edna Marx. She was the first of Ervin and Edna’s nine children. Carol attended Sterling School through 8th grade, Manti High School through 10th grade, 11th grade in Mt. Pleasant while her father worked at Wasatch Academy, and graduated from North Sanpete High School majoring in business administration classes. She continued her education off and on, finally fulfilling the dream of a college degree in 1973 in Consumer Education from Sacramento State University with minors in psychology and music. Carol met her first husband, Eugene K. Trousdale, Jr. at the White City Ballroom In Ogden, Utah while both were working at Hill Field Air Force Base, and were married shortly thereafter on September 8, 1943. Together they welcomed their four children (three boys and a girl) between 1944 and 1953. Growing up in the midst of the Great Depression on a small family farm, Carol learned important habits of hard work and thrift that she used to create a better life for herself and her family. She held many different jobs over the years, including house cleaning, office work, real estate sales, high school teacher, and culminating with positions for the State of California Office of Consumer Affairs, and the Board of Cosmetology. Her last position before retirement was with the Contractors Board. She was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served many callings with the church, including pianist and organist, primary teacher, and home visitor for the Relief Society. She enjoyed meetings of the International Society Daughters of Utah Pioneers, and was proud of pioneer members of her family who migrated to Utah in the 19th century. She also loved singing, dancing, traveling, cooking, gardening, reading, camping, watching the stock market, and always remembering the birthdays and special events of her very large extended family. She had a wonderful capacity to enjoy the smallest things, such as the delicate beauty of a single flower, and loved telling stories of her childhood and early years. Her vivid stories revealed how she was from another age, and in some ways from another country that almost no longer exists. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Eugene K. Trousdale, Jr. and by her second husband, Carole Walter Neptune, as well as cherished siblings Reva Elaine Marx Wadsworth, Dixie Marx Olson, Sharon Fay Marx Thorup, Ronald Jay Marx, and Carma Lucille Marx Gunnerson. Carol is survived, and remembered with love, by her four children: David Trousdale of Mountain View CA (spouse Sherry Symington), Eugene Trousdale of Camarillo CA, Tanya Lowe of Carmichael CA (spouse Larry Lowe), and Kyle Trousdale of Alpine UT (spouse Terri Trousdale); 17 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her devoted siblings: Dolores Marx of Scottsdale AZ, Gary Marx of Scottsdale AZ, and Robert “Bud” Marx of Sandy UT. She was beloved, and will be deeply missed by all. A Viewing will be held Friday evening, October 30th, at Utah Valley Mortuary, 1966 West 700 North, Lindon, Utah, from 6:30 to 8:00 pm. Graveside services will take place Saturday, October 31st, at 11:30 am, in the Manti City Cemetery. Funeral Directors: Utah Valley Mortuary.
