Claudia Kamor

May 17, 1920 - March 21, 2015

Claudia Ruth (Cooke) Kamor, age 94, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2015 at the home she shared with her daughter Jennifer Nederhand in Lehi, UT. Before moving to Utah in 2014, she lived for 50 years in Newtown Square, PA where she was a greatly loved neighbor and friend. After moving to Utah, she reconnected with many old friends and family members. Claudia was born May 17, 1920 in Fernbrook, PA. She was the daughter of Loretta Martz (Knorr) Cooke and Claude Harold Cooke. She had a carefree and simple childhood, despite the Great Depression. She graduated from Dallas High School in 1938 and matriculated at East Stroudsburg State Teachers College that fall. She graduated in Health and Physical Education in May of 1942. She then entered the Army Medical Corps and commenced training in January 1943 as a Physical Therapist at Walter Reed General Hospital in Washington, D.C. Upon finishing her training, she left for the European Theater, landing in England the 4th of July 1944. While there, she served in various military hospitals caring for wounded soldiers. In August of 1945, she returned home on the ship Queen Elizabeth. In March of 1948, she was discharged from the armed services in Battle Creek, MI as a 1st Lt. Claudia married her husband, Frank B. Kamor, on February 3rd, 1948. Frank was also a World War II veteran, serving as an Army Aircorps pilot. They had first met in 1933, while attending junior and senior high school together. For the first eighteen years of her marriage, she was a devoted mother of four and homemaker. From 1966 to 1976, she worked for Grants, a department store near her home. In 1951 she met missionaries from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She wholeheartedly accepted this faith and was happily baptized on Dec. 9th, 1951. Thus began a long and joyful journey; she served in many capacities at her church, teaching children and teenagers, leading others, and serving many on a very personal level. Her husband Frank served along with her—over the years their children heard many stories of their quiet acts of service. She attended the same congregation for sixty-two years and was an example of devotion to many. For the past nine months in Utah, she faithfully attended church with her daughter and made new friends. Claudia, like her mother, loved birds and always had multiple feeders. She loved to share her knowledge of birds with her grandchildren and neighborhood children over the years. She kept a vegetable garden and planted many beautiful flowers around her home. She was a cheerful and energetic person, who finally learned to drive in the 1970’s, making it easier to help others. She always had time for her thirteen grandchildren and made each one of them feel special; she loved attending their concerts, birthdays, and life events. Claudia loved watching sports; she first cultivated this love as a basketball player on both her high school and college teams. She was a huge fan of the Philadelphia Phillies, Eagles, and 76ers. She is survived by three daughters: Deborah Ferleger of Newtown Square, PA, Jennifer Nederhand of Lehi, UT, and Barbara Stankiewicz (Russell), of Lewisburg, PA. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren: Chrissa Pullicino, Julie Tabla (Michael), David Stankiewicz (Meredith), Cheri Nederhand, Michael Ferleger (Meredith), Sarah Dailey (Nathaniel), Frankie Nederhand (Alisa), Daniel Ferleger (Beth), Katie Stankiewicz, Anthonie Nederhand (Angela), Lisa Ferleger ( Sean), Amy Stankiewicz, and John Stankiewicz; 8 great grandchildren: Ryan, Kyle, Mariah, Carter, and Jacob Tabla of Lehi, UT, Sam and Lillian Stankiewicz of Alexandria, VA, and Sean Greenleaf Jr. of Croydon, PA; and a brother, Charles H. Cooke of Dallas, PA. Claudia was preceded in death by her husband Frank B. Kamor, son Christopher Mark Kamor, and sister Betty Jane Cooke. A memorial service will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 721 Paxon Hollow Rd., Broomall, PA at 10am on March 28th. Burial will follow in the Media Cemetery, Media, PA. The family would like to express thanks and appreciation to the many organizations that offered loving care to Claudia in her final years: Home Instead, Sarah Care, the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Ashford, Visiting Angels, and Sunrise Hospice. A Visitation will be held Saturday, March 28, 2015 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 721 Paxton Hollow Road, Broomall, PA, where Funeral Services will follow beginning at 11:15 am. Interment in the Media Cemetery, Media, PA.
