Mr. Dennis Bateman

April 10, 1937 - June 19, 2013

Dennis Noal Bateman Lt. Colonel, US Army Reserve Surrounded by loved ones, our beloved husband and father passed away on Wednesday, June 19, 2013. He was dear to all who knew him. His kindness, gentleness, and Christ-like demeanor will forever be remembered and admired. Dennis Noal Bateman was born in Murray, Utah, on April 10, 1937, to Noal and Beth Bateman. He graduated from Jordan High School in Sandy where he was voted the “Spirit of Jordan High.” Filled with a great love for his country, Dennis joined the National Guard at the age of 17 right out of high school, and went on to serve in the Army Reserve for many years, ultimately earning the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. After completing an English degree at the University of Utah, he stayed on to earn a Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work, anxious for a career of helping people realize their individual worth. He did just that, working with and blessing the lives of many, many people as a licensed clinical social worker for over 40 years. In 1965, Dennis met his wife, Caryll Wilson, on a blind date and said it was love at first sight. They were married for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple, raised four children, and were looking forward to soon celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. He adored her, and she lovingly cared for him, especially the last few years as he battled cancer. Family life meant everything to him. An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Dennis served in many church callings. In 1958, he left on a mission to the Central Atlantic States Mission, laboring at length from Pembroke, Virginia to Wilmington, North Carolina. As an avid, life-long student of Church history, he felt especially blessed to later join his wife on a mission to the Kirtland Ohio Historic Sites. They loved teaching and testifying of the restoration of the gospel together. Dennis is survived by his wife, Caryll, as well as sons Jeffrey, and John (Rebecca), and daughters Paige (Matthew) Holland, and Janice (Aaron) Fitch, 9 perfect grandchildren, and a brother and two sisters, Vaun Bateman, MelRae Brown, and Brenda Ganz. Funeral services will be on Saturday, June 22nd at 11:00 a.m. at the Sharon East Stake Center, 1060 East, 2400 North, in Provo, Utah. A public viewing will be held at the same location on Friday, June 21st from 6:30 to 8:30 pm and also on Saturday, June 22nd from 9:30 to 10:30 am. Interment with military honors in the Sandy City Cemetery, 9000 South 700 East, Sandy, UT. We appreciate and sincerely thank all for the exceptional love of those who have helped care for Dennis in these final years. Funeral Directors: Utah Valley Mortuary.
