DeVon Zumbrennen
June 7, 1952 - July 26, 2017
DeVon Zumbrennen was surrounded by loved ones as he passed away on July 26, 2017 after a long battle with cancer. He fought to the very end, which is exemplary of his love for life, family and friends. He was born June 7, 1952, in Provo, Utah to Aaron Straubhaar and Laurine Pulham Zumbrennen. He married Terry Lee Robinson on June 8, 1973 and was later sealed to his family on November 22nd, 1994 in the Salt Lake Temple. DeVon grew up and attended school in Provo, UT, graduating from Provo High School in 1970. He continued his education at Utah Technical College where he received his Associates Degree and later attended Brigham Young University graduating with his Bachelor’s Degree in Communications. He used his communications degree and talent for writing in various careers throughout his life but primarily focused on sales with companies like MetLife, Xactware and Calorimetry Sciences Corporation (CSC) and most recently as a real estate investor. He had a great love for reading, cooking, gardening, biking, roller blading, sailing his Hobie Cat and photography. He especially loved traveling. His love for travel took him to 48 states, only missing Alaska and North Dakota. He also traveled to Asia, South America and many European Countries including England, France, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, and Ireland. He never left home without a Rick Steves’ travel book as his companion. He loved learning about and exploring other cultures by eating traditional foods and sleeping in local establishments. He was quick to talk to locals in every country to experience the world through their eyes. He was always up for a new adventure. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many positions. He spent many years with the youth, whom he loved, serving eight years in Cub Scouts and many more in the Young Men Organization. He went on countless campouts always struggling to keep the youth safe during their many adventures while keeping humor alive by giving his fellow leaders and youth memorable nicknames (which some still use). DeVon loved people. He enjoyed visiting with everyone around him whether it was the server at a restaurant, a flight attendant on a plane, a physician in the hospital or close family members and friends. He was always quick with a joke although some didn’t understand his dry sense of humor. We will miss his fun, quirky personality. DeVon is survived by his wife Terry Robinson Zumbrennen and two daughters: Nicole (Bret) Clark of Provo, UT, parents of Jenny, Tyler, Katy and Shawn; and Kimberly (Ben) Bullough of Boston, MA, parents of Nathan and Matthew. He is survived by three of his siblings Glee (Pat) Zumbrennen, Jan (Kathy) Zumbrennen, and Kent (Lori) Zumbrennen and preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 1st at 11:00 a.m. at Cascade 5th Ward, 1051 East 200 North, Orem, Utah where a viewing will be held Monday, July 31st from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and prior to services on Tuesday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Orem City Cemetery.
