Dorothy Newman Breeze

November 20, 1920 - March 20, 2016

Our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great, great grandmother, Dorothy Sykes Newman Breeze passed away peacefully at the age of 95 on Sunday, March 20, 2016. Dorothy was surrounded by her loving family in the home she and her husband, Clyde Newman, built in 1950. Dorothy was born November 20, 1920, to Alexander and Caroline Sykes in Pleasant Grove, Utah. She married Clyde Radmall Newman in 1938, and they were blessed with three children: Robert, Joan, and Joyce. Because of the early death of Dorothy’s mother, she raised her younger brother Grant Dee from the time he was eleven years old. Her husband Clyde passed away in 1975, after suffering for over two years with colon cancer. After his early passing, Dorothy began working at Valley View Elementary School and later at the American Fork Hospital. In 1981, she married William H. Breeze. He passed away in 1993 with lung cancer. Dorothy enjoyed gardening and was well known in her community for the delicious raspberries she grew. On Memorial Day she created beautiful flower arrangements from her garden and decorated the graves of family and friends. Another favorite past time was making quilts for family members. Christmas was her favorite time of year and she was famous for the delicious candy she made and shared Dorothy was a Snowbird and loved to travel in her motor home “her mini-home” and spend the winter months in Arizona. She also enjoyed her time at Little Mill Campground in American Fork Canyon. She created many wonderful memories for her grandchildren and their children enjoying the beauties of nature as they camped with her. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed her callings serving in the ward. She especially enjoyed her calling as a Temple worker. Dorothy is survived by her son Robert (Carolyn), Joan Smith, Joyce (Dean) Durrant; thirteen grandchildren, thirty-three great grandchildren, and ten great, great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers: Delbert, Paul, and Dee; husbands, daughter in law, Sharon Newman, her great grandchildren Bradley Newman and Annaleah Durrant, and great, great grandchildren Millie Owen and Gavin Owen. Special thanks for the twenty-four hour loving care provided to her by the Barbara Newman family. Thanks also to Community Nursing Hospice (CNS) and Dorothy’s loving nurse Monica Boyer and aide Kayla Holt and also other CNS workers Kelly Hooley, Terri Fausett, and Matt Fellows. Funeral Services for Dorothy will be held Friday, March 25th, at 11:00 am, at Grove Creek 4th Ward, 942 North 500 East, Pleasant Grove, Utah, where a Viewing will be held prior from 10:00 to 10:45 am. Interment in Pleasant Grove City Cemetery. Funeral Directors. Utah Valley Mortuary.
