Dr. Elmo Roylance Martin Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Dr. Elmo Roylance Martin (1924-2019) Words could never describe the love and gratitude we feel for the head of our family. Roylance Martin, age 94, passed away peacefully at his home in Orem, Utah on January 2, 2019, surrounded by family members. Roylance was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on November 12, 1924 to Elmo Thomas Martin and Vinita Fern Butterworth. He was raised in Murray, Utah. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout and graduated from Murray High School in 1943. After high school, he served as a medic in the US Navy during World War II followed by a three-year mission in Brazil for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He married the love of his life, Geniel Shipley, on March 20, 1953 in the Manti, Utah Temple and enjoyed over 65 years of loving companionship. After years of great effort, work and raising children he graduated from the University of Utah with a doctorate degree in microbiology, and moved his family to Los Angeles, California where they lived happily for 52 years. They moved to Orem, Utah in 2015. Roylance loved fishing and hunting and passed his great fishing skills to many of his children and grandchildren. He also dearly loved nature, photography and poetry and shared his photographs and poetry with everyone. Roylance is survived by his wife, Geniel, children, Craig (Karla) Martin, Roger Martin, David Martin, Mary Littlefield, Stuart (Kim) Martin and Marla (Keith) Lineman, eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Cleone Glade, son-in-law David Littlefield and grandson Eric Martin. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, January 8th, at 11:00 am, at the Lakeview 7th Ward, 155 West 1600 South, Orem, Utah, where a brief Viewing will be held prior to services from 10:45 to 11:00 am. Interment in Oak City Cemetery, Oak City, Utah. Funeral Directors: Utah Valley Mortuary.
