Elvin R Tanner
March 28, 1933 - July 17, 2018
Elvin R Tanner, 85, of Lindon, Utah, returned to his Heavenly Father on July 17 at 11:50 pm while under the tender care of Utah Valley Hospital. His wife and four children surrounded him as he passed due to complications associated with Parkinsons. Elvin was born March 28, 1933 in Roosevelt, Duchesne County, Utah to Hyrum Edward Tanner and Ethel Lorean Hunt Tanner. He graduated from Hinckley High School in Millard County, Utah, where he was a top basketball and baseball player. He met the love of his life, Josephine Elizabeth Garrison, while serving an LDS mission in the Spanish American Mission. About a year after returning from their missions, they were married in the Mesa, Arizona LDS Temple for time and all eternity and settled in Delta, Utah to work in the family bee keeping business. Shortly after their first child was born, they moved to Provo, Utah to start college at Brigham Young University. Elvin graduated with a B.A. in Psychology and then attended the University of Utah where he earned a Masters degree in Psychiatric Social Work. Returning to BYU, he earned a Ph.D. in Psychology and started his career at Cal State University Chico in Northern California. A year later he returned to BYU where he had a prestigious career as a professor and clinical psychologist and finished his career as Clinical Director of the counseling center. He retired from BYU in 1997. Elvin’s church service included many positions including BSA Scout Master, Stake High Council and Bishop. In his retirement, Elvin and Elizabeth served 3 additional LDS missions, first in the Bolivia, Cochabamba Mission followed by a mission in the Spain, Tenerife Mission in the Canary Islands and lastly they served a service mission in Nauvoo, IL. Elvin had an amazing impact on the lives of all those with whom he came in contact. He had an infectious joy for life and a crazy sense of humor. He was a hard worker and always served others when he saw a need. His wife, Elizabeth Tanner, his four children, Kirk Tanner (Lisa), Heidi Tanner Roberts (David), Danna Tanner and Dustin Tanner (Marie), as well as 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren survive him. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, July 25th at 11:00 am at the Lindon 16th Ward, 612 West 100 South, Lindon, Utah, where Viewings will be held Tuesday, July 24th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and prior to services on Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 am. Interment in Lindon City Cemetery, 600 North 200 East, Lindon, Utah. Funeral Directors: Utah Valley Mortuary.
