Fred B Nelson
March 12, 1938 - February 22, 2022
Frederic Bagley Nelson, 83, passed away on Feb. 22, 2022 surrounded by his family. He was born at Cottonwood Maternity Hospital Mar 12, 1938 to Irvin T. Nelson and Kathleen Bagley. He was the youngest of six children. He spent his childhood in the beautiful Cottonwood area. Fred attended Olympus Junior High and Olympus High School. He was married Dec. 30, 1955 to his sweetheart Diane Morton. They became the parents of eight children: Fred Jr., Danny (Melonie), Jerry (Donna), Natalie Fisihetau (David), Lisa Wilson, Amy Merz- deceased (Dave), John (Shauna), and Mindy Rose (Brian). They have twenty-eight grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren with another coming soon. Fred graduated from Brigham Young University with a B.S. degree in Industrial Arts. He taught shop classes at Evergreen and Olympus Junior High Schools. He loved teaching, but went back to his floor covering business after three years. He loved his work as an installer and later as a business owner. He especially enjoyed having his sons and, at times, daughters working with him. After his knees and back gave out, he went to work for Delta Airlines. He worked on the ramp and later in reservations. After retiring from Delta he worked at Rug Doctor and then at Home Depot, where he took care of plants and trees until he was nearly eighty years old. Fred was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He especially enjoyed his callings working with the Young Men’s organization. Many of Fred’s greatest joys came from being a father and grandfather. He taught his children the joy of hard work and doing the best job possible. He loved spending time with his family, whether it was fishing with the boys travelling, or attending a grandchild’s event. He supported his family in whatever they were doing, and each knew that he loved them unconditionally. He loved classic cars—new and old. His pride and joy was his ‘70 Chevelle with the 454 engine. He never quite got around to restoring it, but he loved “blowing the soot out of it” it anyway. Fred and Diane had the opportunity to travel to many places. They met their four missionaries in Europe, South America, New Zealand, and the Philippines and went to many other places. Their favorite trip was their annual trek through New England in the fall. Fred served with Diane as a missionary at the LDS Humanitarian Center. He made many friends there and truly loved the work. A serious car accident four years ago was a life changer for Fred and he never quite recovered. His family, who meant everything to him, rallied around him and gave him a rich abundance of love and support. He spent his last three months at Sunrise of Holladay. On his behalf we would like to sincerely thank the caregivers, staff, and residents for their kind and loving service to him. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, March 3rd, at 12:00 noon, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 6410 South 725 East, Murray, Utah, where Viewings will be held Wednesday, March 2nd from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and prior to services on Thursday from 10:30 to 11:30 am.
