Gerold Dean Young
December 19, 1939 - May 4, 2014
Gerold Dean Young passed away too soon due to incompetencies from the medical profession. If situations had been addressed sooner, maybe the outcome would have been different. He was surrounded by family and passed peacefully at home, Sunday, May 4, 2014. Gerold was born December 19, 1939 to Joseph and Lula Mecham Young in Myton, Utah. He was raised in Wallsburg and was the second to the youngest of 10 children. Gerold married Sharron Shepard in April 1960 together they had two sons, Dean and Brad. They later divorced, but remained friends. He later married Ellen Bird in June 1981, they had no children together. They spent many happy years in Provo and Pleasant Grove. Gerold worked construction and for Mines sawmill near Kamas. He also worked for the Forest Service and in 1962 he was involved with the Soapstone Project at the “Bug Camp”. He spent 25 years working for United States Steel “Geneva Works”, working as a Crane Operator and Charging Machine Operator until the plant had its lockout. He later retired and spent his days doing those things he loved. Gerold loved fishing, camping, hunting and spending time with family and friends. He looked forward to visits from grandchildren and family members at any time. Gerold is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; two sisters; two sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; many nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and his little loyal dog, Gypsy. He is survived by his wife, Ellen Young; sons, Dean (Tossinee) Young, Brad (Amy) Young; one brother, Carl Young; three sisters, Ruby Taylor, Loa Shepherd and Bonnie Hoskins; two sisters-in-law, Irene Tisdale of Salt Lake City, Utah and Irene Tisdale of Wallsburg, Utah; six grandsons, two granddaughters and two great-granddaughters. Gerold will be deeply missed. He loved his family and friends. A special thanks to all who came and saw him at Stonehedge of American Fork, Heritage Cove Center, the hospital and home. Your kindness is appreciated. Thanks to Hearts for Hospice who made his final hours so peaceful; son Brad, who was always willing to help take care of his dad; as well as Neil and Jeannie Young; Terry Young; Tennille McCalun and Ruby Taylor. A Viewing for Gerold will be held Thursday, May 8th, from 10:00 am to 11:30 am, at the Wallsburg LDS Chapel, 494 Main Canyon Road, Wallsburg, Utah, with a Graveside Service to follow at 12:00 Noon in the Wallsburg Cemetery, 100 East 200 North, Wallsburg, Utah.
