Gwendolyn Lloyd

August 26, 1920 - May 14, 2014

Gwendolyn Poulson Lloyd An Elect Lady Today we reverence our Mother, a term reserved for one who magnified that honored title in every way. She lived for us, she lived for all around her and she gave us faith to remember that she lives still. Gwen was born August 26, 1920 in Richfield, Utah, to Wallace Eugene and Estella Payne Poulson. As the fourth of eight children, she treasured her heritage of a loving and righteous family. After attending Brigham Young University she ventured to Washington D. C. where she worked as a switchboard operator and secretary for the F.B.I. at the onset of WWII. It was there that she met the dashing Paul Lloyd who she fell eternally in love with. Mom and Dad were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on June 30, 1942 after which they left to Montevideo, Uruguay where Dad was positioned as assistant military attaché to the American Embassy. While serving our country their first child was born as was a life’s mission and joy of her membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her organizational skills blessed her with great opportunities to serve many as she accepted responsible positions. She and Dad also served five LDS missions together, beginning in Merida Mexico after which they were asked to preside overt the Venezuela, Caracas Mission. With what seemed to be brief returns to home, family and new grandchildren, they continued service by presiding over Missionary Training Centers in Santiago, Mexico City and London. Her life was busy and blessed because of her daily, hourly, constant selfless thoughts and acts. Many have been the recipient of a loaf of homemade bread, an invitation to our home with its beautiful manicured yard or a session of listening followed by encouragement and the sharing of a favorite scripture (usually Proverbs 3:5-6). As a tribute to our Mother’s goodness, her table was filled with delicious food, gospel conversation, laughter and penetrating LOVE. Gwen is preceded in death by her husband Paul Lloyd and her son Robert P. Lloyd. Paul and Gwen are the parents of eight children, Judith (Lowell) Anderson, Robert (Carol) Lloyd, Bruce (Joan) Lloyd, Jeanne (Steve) Goalen, Doug (Debbie) Lloyd, Ted (Julie) Lloyd, Laurel (Jeff) Lindley, Tami (Curtis) Cutler; 43 grandchildren and over 100 great grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held Monday, May 19, 2014 at 12:00 Noon at the Oak Hills 4th Ward, 925 East North Temple Drive, Provo, UT, where a Viewing will be held prior from 10:00 am to 11:30 am. Interment in East Lawn Memorial Hills Cemetery, 4800 North 650 East, Provo, UT. Funeral Directors: Utah Valley Mortuary.
