James Cokelet
February 6, 1947 - August 17, 2016
James Erwin Cokelet of Spanish Fork, Utah passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 17th, 2016. Jim was born on February 6th, 1947 to Elizabeth Jean Huening and Norman P. Cokelet in Bremerton, Washington. He is the older brother of Catherine Maxim and Norman P. Cokelet Jr. Jim attended East High School in Bremerton and in 1964 enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served in Vietnam from 1965 - 1972. Jim left the Marine Corp for a time to work in the shipyards in Bremerton but, in 1974, he reenlisted and was stationed at Camp Pendleton, California. Jim met Kathy Fay while at Camp Pendleton and they married in 1977. Jim left the Marine Corps again in 1979 and worked several jobs to provide for his new wife. During this time, he worked for California Transportation all while owning and operating an auto detail shop and a flower shop, and serving as a distributor for LA News. Later on Jim decided to pursue a career in the plumbing industry and received training and certifications as a plumber in California. Jim and Kathy's son, Cody James Cokelet, was born in January of 1989. When Cody was 4, looking to better his family's lives, Jim moved his family to Utah. Earlier this year, battling cancer and many other health issues, Jim moved into the Central Utah Veterans Home, where they took excellent care of him until his passing on August 17th. Jim's hobbies and interests included playing baseball and softball, racing and working on cars, singing, playing billiards with his son, and playing card games with his family. Jim is survived by his wife Kathy Cokelet and his son Cody James Cokelet. He will be extremely missed by all who knew him. Thank you to Central Utah Veterans Home in Payson for their loving care. Funeral Services will be held Monday, August 22nd, at 11:00 am, at the Spanish Fork 8th Ward, 1006 East 200 South, Spanish Fork, Utah, where a Viewing will be held prior from 9:30 to 10:30 am. Interment and Military Honors in Utah Veterans Memorial Park Cemetery. Funeral Directors: Utah Valley Mortuary.
