Jerrold Russell Olson

September 6, 1928 - May 31, 2019

Jerrold Russell Olson’s answer to his question at 90 years, “Am I done yet?” came on May 31, 2019 at 7:00 pm. He was surrounded with love by his children in the comfort of home. Jerry’s mortal work is done, but never forgotten. His work ethic of “If a job is worth doing, then it’s worth doing right” will live on through his 8 children, 30 grandchildren and “a whole herd of great grandkids and one great-great granddaughter.” Born September 6, 1928, to Russell William Olson and Norma Ludlow Olson in Provo, Utah, Jerry was a “scrapper” right from the get-go. He won the heart of his Provo High School sweetheart, Donna Mae Wagstaff. They married September 1, 1948 in the Salt Lake Temple, together they created a home where everyone was welcomed and included. He excelled as a Golden Glove boxer and for the BYU boxing team. He apprenticed as a Machinist with United States Steel, accomplishing over 30 years before retiring as a Foreman in the Roll Shop. After losing his sweetheart, Donna, to cancer, Jerry found and married his saving angel, Pat Chase Olson on June 28, 1983. Later sealed in the Timpanogos Temple. The blending of the two families has been their shining accomplishment. Jerry’s service in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was influencing young men in the Scouting program through his legacy of living the Scout Motto. Jerry bucked the trend of the natural order. Through age he found his health; perhaps not physical, but emotional, mental, and spiritual. His love for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, never wavered yet morphed from the watchful eye of a steward to the loving understanding and companionship of an old friend. His lovable coarseness eventually shucked its exterior to reveal sensitivity, affability, and humility, which endeared all who were within his circle to him. Dad was contented and complete with a fishing pole in his hand, the latest hunting adventure on his lips, with the sunset at his back, surrounded by family and friends. Jerry is survived by his angel wife, Pat; his children, David (Judy) Olson, Shelley (Gaylen) Buckley, Cory (Karen) Olson, Denise (Jim) Taylor, Jan Olson, daughter-in-law, Kris Clark, Jeff (Toni) Hudson; sister, LoriLee Peay. Preceded in death by his wife, Donna; sons, Craig Olson and Kurt Olson; son-in-law, Jeff Clark; brother, Ron L. Olson and brother-in-law, Blake Peay. The Olson family would like to give a tribute of thanks to the A Plus Hospice Care Team and the Covington of Lehi staff for their compassionate caring love. Your job’s now done, Dad, and YOU DID IT RIGHT. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at 11:30 am at the Lehi 3rd Ward Chapel located at 1920 N. 500 W. Lehi, Utah, where a viewing will be held prior to the service from 9:30 to 11:00 am. Interment in the Orem City Cemetery. Funeral Directors: Utah Valley Mortuary.
