Karen Dean

July 6, 1952 - May 20, 2022

Karen Marie Syddall Dean, age 69, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on May 20, 2022 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born July 6, 1952 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Howard and Hazel Syddall, joining two older brothers. Karen was raised in Tooele, UT where she graduated from Tooele High School. In her youth, after losing her mother at an early age, she became the ultimate Daddy’s girl. She enjoyed music, dance, cheerleading, and time with friends and family. Karen met the love of her life in high school. She and John were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple August 14, 1970 enjoying nearly 52 years of wedded bliss. They became parents to four beautiful children, raising them in Pleasant Grove, UT. Karen will be remembered for her radiant smile, contagious laugh, and twinkle in her eye. She beamed with the light of Christ, selflessly ministering to others as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She also enjoyed serving her community and was a favorite substitute teacher of many. Karen is survived by her husband John Dean; children, Brandon (Stefany) Dean, Melanie (Justin) Conrad, Shelli (Stan) Clark, Shalynn (Spencer) Townsend; 15 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; siblings, Gary (Rae) Syddall, Richard Syddall. She is preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Hazel Syddall; grandson, Brennan Conrad. The Dean Family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of Intermountain Home Health & Hospice for the professional and loving care that they extended toward Karen over the past months. A Viewing will be held Tuesday, May 24, 2022, from 6:00-8:00 PM. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at 11:00 AM with an additional viewing prior from 9:30-10:30 AM. Both Viewings and Services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Battle Creek 4th Ward, 1106 East 200 South, Pleasant Grove, Utah. Interment in Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, UT directly following services.
