Kerry Clayton Black

September 2, 1948 - May 3, 2022

Kerry Clayton Black, of Orem, Utah, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family members on May 3, 2022, following several years of ill health. Kerry was born on September 2, 1948 in St. George, Utah, the fourth child of Allen Clarence and Genevieve Hardy Black. He was raised in Henderson, Nevada, where he enjoyed tinkering with cars and motor scooters. Following graduation from Basic High School in 1966, he served honorably in the Andes South Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, becoming fluent in Spanish and developing a life-long love for the people of Latin America. After graduating from BYU, he married Eileen Yoak in 1974 in the Manti Utah Temple. They made their home in Orem, where Kerry was self-employed as a dental lab technician. He enjoyed family vacations, working with his hands, BYU sports, music, and politics. Throughout his life he served his Lord faithfully in whatever church calling he received, ranging from nursery worker to high councilor and bishopric member. He delivered many sermons to his children over the dinner table and - more importantly - by example as a faithful husband and caring father. Kerry and Eileen raised eight children who survive him: Sarah (Jared) Hexberg of Vineyard, Utah; John (Michelle) of San Antonio, Texas; Julia (Justin) Goodale of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Meredith (Jake) Partridge of Orem, Utah; Devon (Annette) of Allen, Texas; Ethan of Salt Lake City, Utah; Andrew (Katlin) of San Antonio, Texas; and Neal (MiKayla) of San Antonio, Texas. He is also survived by his wife, Eileen; brother, Hardy (Cleone) of Hesperia, Calif.; sisters Eva Lynn (Barry) Garlick of Highland, Utah and Krystal Pexton of Leavenworth, Kansas and 23 grandchildren. He is reunited beyond the veil with his parents and his older siblings Robert Black and Sandra Witt. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2022 at 11:00 am at the Lakeridge 8th Ward Chapel, 80 West, 900 South in Orem. A viewing will be held prior to services from 9:30 to 10:30 am. Interment will be at the Orem City Cemetery.
