Lois Heyer Wurtz
October 10, 1925 - December 1, 2020
Lois LaRue Heyer Wurtz was born on October 10, 1925 in Denver, Colorado to Catherine and Eddie Heyer. She was the first of two children followed by her brother Don in 1928. When Lois was one she moved with her family to Sedalia where her father had taken a job as a chauffeur to a wealthy real estate man who lived in a replica of an old Scottish Castle, Charlford, now known as Cherokee Ranch. She had a happy childhood playing with her brother and the sons of her dad’s employer in the castle. When she moved into the assisted living, Lois would say, “My first home was a castle and my last home is one room.” Lois went to school through eighth grade in a two-room schoolhouse, with four grades in each room. Life was very simple during her childhood. When she was fourteen her family moved back to Denver. It was soon after that she met her future husband, Leland Wurtz. Le lived across the street from Lois and he thought she was the most beautiful girl he had seen. They courted for four years before they were married on June 9, 1944 in Denver, Colorado. In 1952 Lois and Le moved to California when Le took a new job. She lived in California until 2018 when she moved to Utah. Lois and Le were blessed with 6 children, 27 grandchildren, and 90 great-grandchildren who were the pride of their lives. Lois and Le joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1956. Lois had a strong testimony of Jesus Christ and loved serving Him. She served in many capacities and enjoyed each new opportunity. Along with her husband, Lois served an eighteen month mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1990 serving in the West Indies Mission headquartered in Barbados. Lois loved to travel and was blessed to travel to many places including the Holy Land, Europe, South America and various places within the United States. Lois loved to be involved and serve. In her later years she volunteered at the Friends of the Library bookstore in Murrieta from 1998 to 2018. She enjoyed playing games and organized various game days and always invited new people to join in. In her last few years she enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles with her new friends. Lois lived a life full of faith, service, and love. She passed away on December 1, 2020 in Highland, Utah. Lois is preceded in death by her husband, Le, brother, Don, grandson, Eric, and great-granddaughter, Tricia. She is survived by her six children, Paul (Sandy), Becky (Elie), Dan (Cindy), Craig (Linda), Ron (Jan), and Patty (Scott). Funeral Directors: Utah Valley Mortuary. _________________________ Gone from My Sight Rev. Luther F. Beecher I am standing upon the seashore. A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze, and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength, and I stand and watch her until she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come down to mingle with each other. Then someone at my side says: “There! She’s gone!” Gone where? Gone from my sight – that is all. She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side, and just as able to bear her load of living freight to the place of her destination. Her diminished size is in me, and not in her. And just at the moment when someone at my side says: “There! She’s gone!” there are other eyes that are watching for her coming; and other voices ready to take up the glad shout: “There she comes!”
