Marilyn Price Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

I, Marilyn Tiddens Price, was born July 10, 1946 in Chicago Illinois. Paul Thomas Tiddens was my wonderful daddy. Mary Louise Stevens, the love of his life, was my mom. I had a happy childhood. My parents loved one another and that meant a lot to me. We lived in Evergreen Park, Illinois until we moved to 1972 Penfold Place in Northbrook, Illinois. We attended the Village Church. It was an important part of life for our family. One day, my Daddy was resting in the den with his hands folded across his chest. I came in and asked him what he was doing. He said he was praying. This made a great impression on me! Daddy prayed. As a family we would say the Lord’s Prayer while standing in a circle holding hands. We always said a simple prayer before dinner. God is great God is good, let us thank him for this food. Mom kept the ship running well at home. She would dress up and put on her face before Dad came home from work. We camped as a family before camping was a popular thing to do. I was in the 8th grade when we made the trip west. We fed animals in Yellowstone, visited Mount Rushmore, the Corn Palace in Mitchell South Dakota, and toured Temple Square in Salt Lake City. I recall being really sad that we couldn’t see inside of the Salt Lake Temple. At home, in Northbrook, our church building was a new sanctuary and there were stained glass windows imported from Germany. I loved the idea of beautiful spaces and architecture. The next year, I was to write a paper in my English class about what I would do if I had only one day left to have the ability to see. The whole paper was about seeing the inside of the Salt Lake Temple. Thirty years later I would realize that dream! In the 3rd grade I drew a picture of Dumbo the elephant. Apparently it was quite good, because I was labeled the class artist. This was key in shaping my early self image. My daddy was artistic, so was Grandma Stevens. Me too? In high school I loved my Art teacher, Mrs. Montague. In college I was an Art Major. My parents said that I needed to come out of college with something I could get a real job with. So I became an Art Education major. After graduation, I taught Art in Genoa, Illinois. I earned $6,000 a year. Good money back then. I experienced a great loss in the 4th grade when my baby brother, Steven Paul Tiddens, died at five months of age. It was a very dark time for me and the whole family. I wanted to know where my baby brother was. The minister I felt did not ease my concerns when he visited our house after my brother died. I would pray letters in my mind to my baby brother. I’d lie in the grass and look at the stars and wonder where he was. I felt very small and lost. In High School I dated a boy who claimed one day while standing in our backyard by my Dad’s lovely garden, that he was an atheist. When he said that, I knew he was wrong! I knew that God existed. In High School, I was pondering why I was here on Earth and what good I was to do. It came to me quite clearly as I stood in the hall in the lower level of the Christian Education building, that I was to care for someone deeply. It was my charge to help this person. I have since determined that my role was to bless my dear Husband. I determined right then and there to live a good life, to be a “good” girl so I could achieve this noble goal. In High School I was involved with publicity for the Drama Club, making murals for bulletin boards and spilling rubber cement on the living room carpet doing so. I was also in FTA, Future Teachers of America. I was on the Moles AAU (intramural) basketball team. I also joined Orchesis, the modern dance club. I was president of GAA (gaelic athletic association) my Sr. year. I received the “Ideal Girl” trophy at the senior assembly at Glenbrook High School in 1964. It was a great surprise to me! A great honor too. Faculty and school leaders chose me. My parents were secretly invited to attend. This has been something that has motivated me to live the best quality of life I could. In college I met Dick, or Richard Anderson Price, Jr., in a schedule change line my sophomore year. He was late for our first date. My roommates tried to convince me to give up and go to the dance with them. He finally showed up 1 ½ hours later. His truck broke down. I stood the entire time because I didn’t want to wrinkle my dress. We married a year and a half later on June 10, 1967 in the Village Church in Northbrook. The Air Force took us to several states including Texas, California, Florida, and Kansas. In Del Rio Texas, we were baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on January 24, 1970. We were sealed in the Manti Temple on June 11, 1974. It has been a great blessing to have the gospel of Jesus Christ in our life. We settled in the Wichita Kansas area where we raised our seven children. Sean Patrick Price (married to Jennifer), Corin Kay Price Meibos (married to John), Reed Stevens Price (married to Brooke), Richard Anderson Price, III (married to Julianne), Cara Lynn Price Kisby (married to Doug), Kelly Enright Price Anderson (married to Mike), and Shannon Catherine Price Williams (married to David). We feel richly blessed with 28 grandchildren, one great-grandchild with another on the way. After 21 years in Peck, Kansas, we moved to Orem, Utah in 2003 to be closer to family. On Tuesday, January 11, 2022 our dear mother was sitting with her eternal sweetheart when she unexpectedly passed. Mere moments before she slipped away, he had sweetly kissed her hand. Marilyn is survived by her loving husband Richard Anderson Price Jr., 7 children and spouses listed above, 28 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild with another on the way, sister Louise Tiddens Gilmore (John), and brothers Steven Paul Tiddens II (Jennifer) and Paul Thomas Tiddens Jr. (Stephanie). Marilyn was preceded in death by her dear parents, Paul Thomas Tiddens Sr. and Mary Louise Stevens Tiddens, and beautiful infant brother, Steven Paul Tiddens I. We wish to extend our deep gratitude to the friends, family, and neighbors who generously gave their time, support, thoughts, and prayers to our family during this difficult time. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 18th, at 11:00 am, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Lakeridge 8th Ward, 80 West 900 South, Orem, Utah, where a Viewing will be held prior to the service from 9:00 am to 10:30 am. Interment will be at the Orem City Cemetery. Funeral Directors: Utah Valley Mortuary.
