Mrs. Melba Hill Atkinson
September 13, 1924 - September 15, 2013
Melba Hill Atkinson September 13, 1924 – September 15,2013 Our loving mother and grandmother peacefully passed away in her home surrounded by her family on September 15, 2013. Her sweet presence will be missed by everyone who knew her. She was born September 13, 1924 in Ogden Utah to Jacob and Theresa Telleson. She attended Ogden High School and shortly after finishing, she married Richard Day in 1941. Tragedy struck her young life when she was widowed with two young daughters in 1949. She was blessed when she met and married her eternal companion Glen J. Hill March 25, 1950 in Vallejo, California. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple, July 18, 1951. Together, they raised their five children in the city of Concord California until they retired and moved to Orem Utah in 1978. She lost her sweetheart in 1985 after 35 years of marriage. She remained in Orem until she married Dean Hazen Atkinson in Stockton Missouri in 1987. Together, they served a temple mission in Dallas Texas for five years and later moved to Orem Utah where they lived until they moved to American Fork in 2005. She and Dean were married for 24 years until he passed away at the age of 96 in 2011. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and held many church positions having been the Relied Society President on three different occasions. She loved serving in the temple as a temple worker having served in the Dallas and Timpanogos Temples. Our mother was a talented seamstress and sewed countless clothes for her daughters, which gave her the experience to be able to work at “Peggy’s Bridal Shop” in Orem. She absolutely loved working with soon to be brides assisting them in fulfilling their dream of finding the perfect wedding gown. She often talked about the sweet smiles that would come to the bride’s face as they found “The one”! She was determined to stay active and worked as a “Lunch Lady” at a near by elementary school in Orem. The children loved and missed her sending her get-well cards when she had a stroke at the age of 79. She was finally forced to slow down and retire but continued to serve in the Timpanogos Temple as a temple worker. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and has been an inspiration to many, showing a determination to “Never give up”. She often sent notes of encouragement to friends and neighbors when she knew they needed cheering up. She had a very strong testimony that our Savior lives. She taught this principle to others throughout her life and knowing that she will be united again with her eternal family brings great comfort to those who will miss her. She is survived by: Daughters, Carolyn Day, Wilma Hill Godsey, Diane Hill Harper (Dennis) Kriss Hill Halladay (Terry Jensen) and son, Raymond Jay Hill. She has 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Melba will be held Thursday, September 19, at 11:00 am, at the American Fork 30th Ward chapel, 261 N. 900 E., American Fork, Utah, where a Visitation will be held prior from 9:00 am to 10:15 am.
