O. Kent Coles

February 12, 1938 - June 18, 2021

Otto Kent Coles passed away at home surrounded by his wife and 7 children on the 18th of June 2021 in Orem, Utah, at the age of 83. Kent was born on February 12, 1938, in Ogden, Utah to Otto Victor and Mildred Evelyn Coles. His dad instilled in him a love of Moon Lake and fishing at an early age. Family trips there quickly became a cherished family tradition and Kent continued that with his kids. Kent dearly loved the mountains, fishing, hiking, treasure hunting with his brothers and just being outdoors. He always found peace and solitude there and to him these mountains are a sacred place. Kent was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a mission as a young man in the Gulf States Mission. He had a great love of the gospel and a testimony of the importance of serving others. He cherished times where he was able to give to those in need and always wished that he could do more. Kent received his Bachelor’s degree from Weber State College. He spent much of his professional career in real estate and land development, and loved working with his brothers in all of their endeavors. While attending institute at Weber State Kent met his sweetheart, Elaine Westbroek Coles. Together they enjoyed the “Happy noise” of their 7 children and 30 wonderful grandchildren. Just one week before he slipped away they celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary together. Kent is survived by his wife Elaine Westbroek Coles, his sons Michael, Shane, Spencer, Cameron, and Dane Coles, and his two daughters Keena Miner and Kerri Johnson, and 29 of his 30 beautiful grandchildren. Kent is also survived by his siblings Marbra Sherer, Scott Coles, Karen Bird, Bruce Coles, Garth Coles, and Kathy Wheelwright. He is preceded in death by his parents Otto Victor Coles, Mildred Evelyn Coles, and his sister Shirley Evelyn Coles. The family wishes to thank the many family members, friends, neighbors and Valeo hospice for all the thoughtful service, love, support, and prayers that were offered in Kent’s behalf. A Viewing will be held Wednesday, June 23rd, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Cascade 5th Ward, 1051 East 200 North, Orem Utah. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, June 24th, at 11:00 am, at the same location, where a Viewing will be held prior to the service from 9:30 to 10:30 am. Interment in Orem City Cemetery.
