Richard A. Anderson
April 10, 1933 - February 9, 2018
Richard (Dick) Aaron Anderson, 84, passed away peacefully February 9, 2018 of natural causes in his home in Provo, Utah surrounded by family. He was born April 10, 1933 in Castle Dale, Utah to Francis Norman and Zelda Jane Oman Anderson. Richard grew up in Emery County until he was 8 years old when they moved to California. He graduated from Inglewood High School. Where he played basketball, baseball, football and ran track. His senior year he served as the Commissioner of Student Body activities and was voted by his class to represent them as the speaker at their graduation. He was offered a scholarship from Stanford University but after a visit from a football coach from Brigham Young University he accepted a scholarship and went to play football at BYU. He arrived at BYU with high hopes of setting the world on fire but that was not to be. He sprained then broke his wrist in one of his first games and football came to an end. He realized he wasn’t there to play football but to meet his future wife. Before getting married he was drafted into the army in May of 1953. On December 26, 1953 while on leave he married Jacqueline Little. They were later sealed for time and eternity in the Los Angeles LDS Temple. He served in the army for 2 years then returned to California where he worked as a painting contractor and they lived happily there for 15 years. They moved to Provo, Utah in 1968 where he continued to paint houses and do finishing work. Richard and Jacqueline had four children: Jennifer, Gregory, Laurelee and Heather. They lived in their Provo home and raised their family for 30 years together. Jacqueline passed away February 4, 1998. Richard later married Jane Ellen Boehm Allred on August 5, 2000. He was welcomed into the Allred family with love and acceptance and treated as one of their own. Jane along with her children from her late husband Rex Allred; Trevor, Darin, Barry, Kami, Traci and Lori gave Richard many wonderful and happy memories during his 18 years with their family. Richard loved serving in many capacities in the LDS Church including: Branch President, Bishop, Scout Leader, Youth Leader, High Councilman and Temple Worker to name a few. He was given the opportunity to go to Nauvoo, Illinois in 1975-1976 to work on the restoration project. He had the time of his life working on the Scovell Bakery, The Times and Seasons Building, The Print Shop, and the Martin Building. He also poured cement around the temple foundation. Richard touched the lives of all he met throughout his life. He greeted all with a big hug whether he knew you or not. If there was a competition for best hug he would definitely win. He gave unselfishly of himself, his time and his talents. He loved his family very much and loved to spend time with them and supporting them in anything and everything they were doing. He loved the outdoors whether it be in the mountains camping, on the lake boating or in his yard planting flowers and mowing the lawn. He loved everything BYU but especially BYU football; he also loved going on drives, campfires, fishing and stuffed animals. Especially if they made noise and moved. He had a larger than life personality and made the world a better place just by being in it. He along with his family appreciate all those that helped him in these last 5 years. Too many Dr.’s and nurses to name but we thank all of you very much. Thank you to Lisa and Josh from IHC Hospice for helping so much during these last few weeks. A huge thank you as well to Dr. Robert Taylor for going above and beyond the call of duty and helping us all through this time. Richard is survived by his loving wife, Jane Ellen Boehm Allred Anderson; children, Jennifer Anderson’Cymbaluk (Al), Gregory Anderson (Susan), Laurelee Anderson, Heather Taylor (Jerald); stepchildren, Trevor Allred (Lisa), Darin Allred (Luz), Barry Allred (Marla), Traci Eddington (Scott), Kami Youngblood (Carl), Lori Searle (Travis); many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and two sisters, Larue Sundquist and Geri Lillywhite.
