Richard K. Sorensen
August 29, 1932 - July 20, 2018
Richard Kenneth Sorensen joined his loved ones in heaven on Friday, July 20, 2018. He was born in Buhl, Idaho on August 29, 1932 to Foster Julius and Florence Lavere Sorensen. He was raised on a dairy farm and he learned early to be a hard worker. Richard married Maureen Brown in the Logan Temple on September 17, 1954. They are the parents of six children. Richard loved to fish, hunt, farm, play cards, and work with wood. He especially loved sharing those passions with his family. He could fix anything that was broken and figure out a solution to almost any problem. He went to his first 8 years of school in a 2-room country schoolhouse and finished his education at Utah State Agricultural College. After graduating with a degree in Civil Engineering he spent two years in the military, then began a 38 year career with the Idaho Department of Transportation. Over the course of his employment, he would go from using a slide ruler, to a hand-crank calculator, to a hand-held calculator, and ultimately to a personal computer, evidence of the changes the world would see over the course of his lifetime. He began as a surveyor and retired as the head of design for the entire state of Idaho. Richard is survived by his wife, Maureen; brother, Wayne (DeAnna); three sons, Kenneth (Peggy), Steven (Milli), David (Martha); three daughters, Susan (Dale) Langford, Barbara (Corey) Rogers, and Janet; 23 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, July 26, at 11:00 am at the LDS Chapel located at 4921 North Mitchell Street in Boise, Idaho. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Graveside Services will be held on Friday, July 27, at 2:30 pm at the Logan City Cemetery, Logan, Utah. Note: Due to construction located on the East side of the Logan City Cemetery, please use the entrance located on 1000 North. Funeral Directors: Bowman Funeral Parlor of Boise, ID and Utah Valley Mortuary of Lindon, UT. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.uvfuneral.com.
