Sherman Fugal

June 10, 1949 - November 9, 2014

Sherman Lynn “Jack” Fugal passed away in his sleep early Sunday morning, November 9, 2014, at his home in Highland, due to complications following surgery for a broken leg. Sherm was born in American Fork, Utah on June 10, 1949, the fifth of eight children, to Bryan and Jennie Burch Fugal. He was raised in Pleasant Grove and graduated from PG High in 1967. He served a mission for the LDS Church in Guatemala/El Salvador from 1968-70. He earned a BS in Economics from BYU in 1974. While at BYU, he met Peggy Lee Ball, a recent LDS convert from western NY. They were married on February 29, 1972 and sealed in the Provo Temple. Sherm was a loving father who dedicated himself to raising his four sons. He loved playing basketball, skiing, boating, camping, shooting guns, and riding motorcycles and ATVs with them. He was an avid BYU fan and took his boys to countless football and basketball games. His favorite places to visit were Lake Powell, American Fork Canyon and Southern Utah. He helped each of his sons attain the rank of Eagle Scout and took great pride in them serving honorable missions. He partnered with his wife in many successful endeavors. They loved playing with their grandchildren, playing cards with friends, participating in their FHE group and going to dinner and movies. Together they visited 20 countries. Sherm loved the gospel and served in three bishoprics, on a Stake High Council, as Scout leader, in three Branch Presidencies at the MTC, and as a Temple Worker. He most recently served as 11 year-old Scout leader in the Highland 9th Ward. Sherm was happiest when surrounded by family and when serving others. He always gave selflessly of his time, talents and means. He was loved by many and will be missed by all. He is survived by his wife, Peg; four sons: Jayson (Elizabeth), Joshua, Jacob and Jeremy (Megan); 7 siblings: Kristine (Gene) Hughes, Alan (Judy), Kenneth (Cheryl), Milton (Joan), Laurel (Steve) Dimock, Carolyn, and Larry; 6 grandchildren: Halle, Madeline, Ayden, Emelia, Jackson and Lawson. Services will be held Saturday, November 15 at noon at the Highland 9th Ward Chapel, located at 11162 N. Alpine Hwy, Highland, Utah. Interment in Highland City Cemetery. Funeral Directors: Utah Valley Mortuary.
