Shirley Boyack

June 27, 1929 - August 14, 2016

Shirley Christensen Boyack was born June 27, 1929 in the home of her family farm in Ovid Idaho, to Agnes Burgetta Olsen and Frank Melvin Christensen. She passed away peacefully in her home on August 14, 2016. She grew up in Grace, Idaho and along with her siblings learned the value of hard work as she helped run the family farm. She often spoke of helping her father plow the field, gathering eggs for her mother, and riding her horse to school.  Shirley attended LDS Business College, living in a small downtown apartment with her friend Dorothy. It was at LDS Business College that she met and married Sam Boyack. They would spend the next 63 years by each other's side.  Her favorite thing was her road trips with her husband. They loved to go camping all over Southern Utah, and as they got older they took many trips to Wendover and Laughlin, always with coupons to get free rooms and meals. Shirley loved being active and made many dear friends through all of her swimming classes. She also loved to play Bunco with her neighborhood club and cherished her friendships with those women. Shirley was a good neighbor and friend to everyone, someone to whom kindness came so easily. She struggled with heartache after the passing of her best friend Barbara Martines, with whom she shared a long friendship when their six-year-old daughters became friends. She cherished her family and time spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was lovingly known as 'grandma with the farm' and gave her grandchildren so many good memories of sleepovers, swimming, sewing, and cooking. Shirley is survived by her adoring husband Sam, brother Glayd (Helen), sister Zan (Grant - deceased), her children Jan (Doug) and Clay, grandchildren Brittney (John) Darby (Rob) and Beau, and her great grandchildren Madison and William. Shirley is preceded in death by her brother Barry Christensen and by her parents Burgetta and Melvin. Shirley was especially loved by her special-needs grandson Beau and the friends at his activity program, Friends Clubhouse. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Friends Clubhouse to help with activities for their participants - 1104 East Diamond Way, Sandy UT 84094 Shirley's family would like to thank Heather, Marley, and Carrie from Rocky Mountain Hospice for their care, compassion and love. Graveside Services will be held on Friday, August 19th, at 11am, at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. Dimple Dell Road (10600 S.) Sandy, UT. Funeral Directors: Utah Valley Mortuary.
