William Quillen

December 26, 1930 - June 27, 2020

William Edgar Quillen, 89, died in Lehi, Utah on Saturday, 27 June 2020. He was surrounded by close members of his family at the time of his passing. He was born on 26 December 1930 in Norman Oklahoma. His parents were Helon Edgar Quillen and Vivian Iris Cunningham Quillen. Bill enlisted in the United States Air Force in January 1948, two weeks after he turned 17. He served until January 1952, making him a Korean War-era veteran. He married the love of his life, Versie Lee Lowrance Quillen on 13 July 1951 in Comption, California. They were later sealed in the Los Angeles Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Bill was a jack of all trades when it came to his hobbies and interests, and he mastered many of them. He raced go-karts, was one of the top quick-draw shooters in Colorado, mastered shotgun, rifle and bow hunting, CB radio, and water skiing. He enjoyed working with wood, and built two ski boats from scratch, a barn and remodeled homes the family lived in. He was a family man, and loved spending time in the mountains with his family. He worked in various positions with Pacific and Mountain Bell / USWest, from telephone installer to lineman to Marketing supervisor. He retired after 30 years of service. His expertise earned him selection for prestigious assignments in Germany, and to install the initial telecommunications systems at NORAD in Cheyenne Mountain, Colorado Springs. He and Versie had three children: Daniel (Bonita) Castle Rock, Colorado, Susan Behm (Johnny) Lehi, Utah, and Rebecca Wachel (Mike) Saratoga Springs, Utah. They have fourteen grandchildren and forty-five great grandchildren. Services will be held Thursday, July 2 at 7:00pm at the LDS chapel located at 828 South Center Street, Lehi, Utah. Interment will occur on July 7 at the Fort Logan National Military Cemetery in Denver, Colorado.
