Mrs. Arlene Honomichl
April 1, 1933 - January 19, 2013
Arlene Perkins Honomichl left this life, peacefully in her sleep, January 19, 2013. Arlene was born as an April Fool’s Day surprise to her father, Arthur Marion Perkins; and mother, Ida LaPrele Cochrane; on April 1, 1933, in Los Angeles, Calif. She grew up in southern Nevada and after graduating from Las Vegas High School, met her sweetheart Joseph Eugene Honomichl. Immediately after their marriage on Jan. 3, 1952, they began their travels all over the United States because of his military career, eventually visiting all 50 states except New Hampshire because Joseph didn’t want her to catch up with him. During her travels, Arlene especially enjoyed the fellowship in the small Latter-Day-Saint branches she found, often having several church callings at once. Later Joseph’s career led them overseas to Germany and then Saudi Arabia. This allowed her to do even more of the travelling she loved so much, eventually visiting more than 30 countries. Arlene was renowned for her cooking. This extended to her opening a dinner club in Saudi Arabia. The only lack in her cooking skills was coffee. When involved in the Red Cross volunteers, and other women’s groups, she was always in charge of the food; except the coffee. No matter how she tried, she could never make good coffee, probably because she had no idea how it was supposed to taste. Arlene also loved to scrapbook and camping with her family in real tents. In 1979, Joseph retired and they settled in Provo. This allowed Arlene to be close to her grandchildren who loved to stop by her house on the way home from school and get treats and play with her great toy collection. Arlene was preceded in death by her husband Joseph in 2001 and often expressed her desire that he would just come get her. She is also preceded in death by her parents, her brother Ron Heward, sister Madeline Smith, and daughter-in-law Gloria Mouritsen Honomichl. Arlene is survived by her children, Lloyd Honomichl, and Lyn (Michael)Fischer; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Also, survived by her brothers, Cliff Perkins, of Logan, Utah; Richard Perkins, of Vancouver, Wash., and George Perkins, of Cedar City, Utah. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, January 26th, at 11:00 am in the Lakeside 7th Ward Chapel, 2530 W. 200 S., Provo, Utah, where a Visitation will be held that morning from 9:30 am to 10:40 am. Interment in Provo City Cemetery. Funeral Directors: Utah Valley Mortuary.
