Darin Whittaker
April 30, 1972 - September 11, 2021
Darin Spencer Whittaker was born on April 30,1972 to Bradley Spencer and Shirley Johnson Whittaker. He passed away peacefully at home on the evening of September 11, 2021. Darin was born in Cedar City, Utah. His family moved to Antioch, California, when he was 8 years old and lived there for a short time. They moved back to Utah in 1981 and lived in Kanab. In 1987, Darin and his family moved to Orem, Utah, where he lived most of his adult life. Darin graduated from Orem High School in 1990 and then attended Brigham Young University for a time. Darin served the people of Japan on a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Darin was the oldest of five siblings, Marcie, Alison, Tyler, and Michelle. He took his role of big brother seriously. He was their watchdog and protector. He always stepped up to help any time one of his siblings needed help. Darin was also an expert at teasing his siblings. He was a doting uncle to his two nieces Josie May Bahr and Amy Agnus Bahr. He always had a silly joke ready for Josie and a quick smile for Amy. Darin had a special relationship with his parents. He learned early on that he could turn to them for comfort and guidance. This special relationship went both ways. He had a very tender heart that was aware of their needs and supported them in many ways. Darin was also a talented musician, who played trumpet and piano and enjoyed composing. He played with several bands throughout his adult life. He toured the US with Moxie Tonic and Two and a Half White Guys and enjoyed putting on a show. He also spent many hours writing poetry and short stories. Though at first impression Darin appeared reserved, he came alive when he was sharing his musical and writing talents. Darin had a brilliant mind and was able to dive into any type of technological problem and find a resolution. Another gift Darin possessed was charity for people of all walks of life. He had the capacity to relate to so many people. Darin faced many challenges during his life which turned his heart towards those hurting and less fortunate. He mourned with those who mourned, even if they were a complete stranger or someone on the other side of the world. Darin was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Arland Spencer and Gladys Nay Whittaker, his maternal grandfather Lowell M Johnson and two younger cousins, Thomas Johnson and Michael Nelson. He is survived by his parents, Bradley and Shirley, his siblings Marcie (Brent) Smith, Alison Whittaker, Tyler (Jessie) Whittaker, Michelle (Thomas) Bahr, and his two nieces Josie and Amy.
