Doris Marquis
July 27, 1936 - April 22, 2020
Doris Geraldine Edwards Marquis (1936-2020) completed her earthly mission on Wednesday, April 22, 2020 and returned to the arms of her Heavenly Father, her sweetheart Phil Marquis, and her earthly parents. She passed from this life in much the same way that she lived her life – surrounded by her children and thinking of their needs and comfort. Doris was born on July 27, 1936 in Hartsville, South Carolina to Willie and Vera Edwards. She grew up the sixth of seven children in a home where God, faith, and family came first. She was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She married her sweetheart Louis Philip Marquis on July 16, 1955, and they were sealed for time and all eternity on September 28, 1966 in the Salt Lake City, Utah temple. She and Phil are the proud parents of two daughters and four sons. Doris was preceded in death by her husband and is survived by her children Denise Drakulich (Steve) of Cedar Hills, Utah, Donna Donnelson (Randy) of Charleston, South Carolina, Philip of Pleasant Grove, Utah, Derek (Colleen) of Lindon, Utah, Kevin (Pam) of Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho, and Todd of Maricopa, Arizona. She is also survived by twenty grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren who adore her, and by her beloved siblings Miriam Houck and Deani Edwards. Doris devoted her life to serving others. No one who knew her doubted that she followed her Savior’s example of complete selflessness. She served faithfully in almost every organization and capacity in the Church of Jesus Christ and taught her children by example what it meant to give her heart and life in service to her Savior. Through her life, countless friends and family members have been the beneficiaries of her ministering to them in their times of need, as well as her wonderful cooking and thoughtful gestures of love. Her legacy is that she leaves behind a faithful family that is devoted to serving others. Doris was served so tenderly during her brief battle with leukemia and ovarian cancer by her nurse, Lisa McFadden, and the wonderful support team at Intermountain Hospice. Everyone whose life she touched will be forever blessed by this kind and gentle woman. Because of the coronavirus, no public visitations or services will be held. A private funeral service and burial will be held at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bluffdale, Utah where she will be laid to rest with her sweetheart Phil. In lieu of flowers, and to honor Doris’s lifetime of service to others, those so inclined may make contributions to the humanitarian efforts of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (philanthropies.churchofjesuschrist.org/humanitarian-services) or to the service organization of your choice. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Utah Valley Mortuary of Lindon, Utah.
