Eleanor Elaine Baum
July 29, 1929 - June 19, 2020
Elaine Baum of Saratoga Springs, Utah passed away peacefully on Friday, June 19, 2020 at 1:25 pm. She was 90 years old. Elaine was born on July 29, 1929 in The Dallas Oregon to Leon Hazzard Turner and Lillian Lucina Blaser Turner. She was raised on a working farm in Summerville, Oregon and was the eldest child in her family. Elaine attended a one room school called the Dry Creek School in Summerville, Oregon (this building is currently listed on the National Register of Historic Places) and because of a valley between her home and the school she walked five miles to school uphill both ways. The Turner family moved to LaGrande, OR about the time Elaine started high school. Elaine married Richard Kenneth Baum December 12, 1949 in the Idaho Falls Temple. She was preceeded in death by her husband Richard and two of her children Lynette Baum and Rebecca Renee Baum. She is survived by her children LeRae Baum Archibald of Fruit Heights, Utah; Karen Elaine Baum Batemen of Snohomish, Washington; Richard Kevin Baum of Highland, Utah; Steven Gregory Baum of St. Louis, Missouri; and Roxy Denise Baum Haynie of Saratoga Springs, Utah. Elaine had 7 children, 20 grandchildren, and 28 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her dear sister Francis Roberta Turner Udall of Portland, Oregon. She rejoins her beloved parents and brothers Ernest Edward Turner, and David Leon Turner, and her sweet sisters Dorothy Ruth Turner Peterson, and Pamela Arlene Turner Wyciskalla. Elaine was widowed at the age of fifty and spent much of her life in the service of others. She loved to garden, served as Relief Society President three times, loved to send and receive flowers, can fruit (which she did as recently as last summer), and kept a neat appearance. She loved the Savior Jesus Christ and stood as a witness of him in all things, and at all times, and in all places. She served selflessly in the temple and loved family history work before it became fashionable. Elaine will be missed by her friends and those who knew her, especially those who received packages of home-made peanut brittle during the Christmas season. People loved her loyalty, generosity, kind smile, and positive outlook on life. She will be missed by those that loved her and life will be emptier without her. We know she will continue to help guide and direct us from the next part of her eternal journey and we look forward to the day "When change and tears are past, All safe and blessed we shall meet at last" Be Still My Soul, Katharina von Schlegel, Hymns of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, # 124.
