Janet Newton

September 15, 1930 - September 8, 2018

Our “Dear, Sweet, Wonderful,” mother Janet Torrey Newton passed away suddenly on Saturday September 8th, 2018. She was born September 15, 1930 in Van Nuys, California, to Russell Alexander Warren and Hazel Jacoby Torrey. She met Richard W. Newton in elementary school and the two friends wed in Moscow, Idaho on January 27, 1951 while he was attending the University of Idaho. Later their marriage was solemnized in the London, England Temple, November 29, 1958. She devoted her life to her family, who adored her in return. Every moment of her life was spent loving and caring for her family and friends. Her greatest joy was spending time around her children, grandchildren and her many friends. The couple spent 20 years in the service of our country both here and abroad, while Richard was an officer in the United States Air Force. This provided them an opportunity to live all over the world and during this time she developed many wonderful friendships, that continue until this day. Jan had a powerful testimony of her Savior Jesus Christ, and was very involved in many church callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her service impacted the lives of many members, in particular the youth and women organizations. The Newtons served an LDS mission to Paris, France. She is survived by her children, Kathy (H.D) Moss of Apache Junction, Arizona, Dianna (Orrin) Andersen of Pleasant Grove, Utah, and son Rick (Kim) Newton of Kaysville, Utah; 13 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren (and an additional 2 on the way). She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard W. Newton, a son, Richard Kent, her parents, Russell and Hazel Torrey, her brother, Russell Torrey and a great grandson, Roman James Newton. A Viewing will be held Friday, September 14th, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, at the Pleasant Grove 2nd Ward, 455 East 200 South, Pleasant Grove, Utah. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, September 15th, at 11:00 am, at the Bountiful 16th Ward, 720 East 550 North, Bountiful, Utah, where a Viewing will be held prior from 9:30 to 10:30 am. Interment in Lakeview Memorial Cemetery, 1640 East Lakeview Drive, Bountiful, Utah. Funeral Directors: Utah Valley Mortuary.
