Joan Holbrook Tidwell

January 29, 1930 - April 14, 2021

Joan Holbrook Tidwell January 29, 1930 ~ April 14, 2021 Joan was born January 29, 1930 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was the youngest of four children born to Paul Lincoln Holbrook and Alice Virginia Jensen. She attended schools in the avenues of Salt Lake, including East high school where she excelled at writing. As a teenager her family moved to Murray where they ran a chicken farm and her father and Sarah Virginia Bryson Holbrook, her second loving mother after her parent’s divorce, provided her with two more brothers. She entered the University of Utah at 17 where she was active in several groups and clubs and maintained an A average, (she loved to tell us that) graduating in 1951 with a degree in English. It was here she met and married the love of her life Dale Lenwood Tidwell in the Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on January 19, 1951. The loving couple soon moved to Southern California for Dale’s work and lived there for over 60 years raising six children and remaining active in many callings and activities for The Church. She and Dale served a temple mission at the Los Angeles Temple. They traveled EVERYWHERE during their Golden Years in their little camper and loved sailing their boat Tranquility. Mom especially loved the beach, art, poetry and after moving back to Utah in 2010 after the death of her sweet love, always, ALWAYS had a view of a mountain in her window! She left us peacefully and happy to be with Dale on April 14, 2021. She is preceded in by her parents, her beloved husband, her brother Richard Holbrook, her sister Virginia Holbrook Wagner, and several sweet great grandchildren she is playing with right now. She is survived by her loving sister Jean Holbrook Davies and her two younger brothers Paul (Heather) and Gordon (Geri) Holbrook. Also, by her six children David Tidwell (Teresa), Susan Tidwell Higley (Jerry), Bryan Tidwell (Ann), Allyson Tidwell Krauel (Steven), Kathryn Tidwell, Marianne Tidwell Hunt (David) and 167 grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her Memorial will be held Saturday, May 1st, at 4:00 pm. Due to restrictions during Covid please attend via Zoom. And to celebrate her life, do something nice for someone you don’t know. For Mom, we are all family! https://zoom.us./j/.884691809?pwd=SFNkMklsVm-JaNEp4NHAOen-NJMjAydz09 This is the meeting ID and passcode if you need to enter it manually.
