Judy Lassiter

March 15, 1948 - March 14, 2018

Our sweet mama passed away on March 14th, 2018 surrounded by her children as a result of injuries sustained in a tragic car accident. Judy was born March 15, 1948 in Eugene, Oregon. She is the daughter of Glenn Lay and Bellrae Hendrix. She had one younger brother David Lay. She graduated from high school in Los Gatos California. She attended her first two years of college at Southern Oregon College and then decided to move to Utah to finish up her degree in elementary education at BYU and figure out what the Mormons were all about. She was baptized a member of the church when she was 12 years old but it wasn't until she attended BYU she really became active in the church. This is where she also met her husband of 27 years Ralph Lassiter. They were married in the Los Angeles temple on July 31st, 1970. Together they had 6 wonderful children who were their pride and joy. As her kids started school she went back to work as a substitute school teacher. She had the opportunity to teach several of her kids throughout the years which she loved. She spent most of her time as a young mother running her kids from one sporting activity to another. She loved to watch her kids play ball. She was really athletic herself. She always played on a team with her husband Ralph while the kids were young. She passed on her love for sports to her children. Judy had a great love for gardening. Her yard was absolutely beautiful. She loved to spend her time planting her flower beds. You always knew where to find her when the weather was warm. She took great pride in her yard. She also had a great love and talent for sewing and quilting. Judy held many callings in the church from relief society presidency, primary teacher, boy scouts, girls camp director, and many more. We always teased her that she loved those little boy scouts more than her own kids. She put her heart and soul into every calling she had. She ended up helping a countless number of boys obtain their eagle scout award. She had a strong testimony of the gospel. She was a great example of love and service to everyone around her. Judy had the biggest heart. She was always finding ways to serve those around her. She was known for always having a diet coke in her hand. If she saw a neighbor in their yard weeding she'd stop to help them. She had such an outgoing personality and love for others. There were so many friends and strangers she'd bring home who eventually became part of our family because she had a way of making everyone feel loved. Judy is survived by her 6 children who meant more to her than anything in this world. Ben (Jen) Lassiter, Lori Lassiter, Luke (Tiffany) Lassiter, Jill (Bret) Erickson, Emily (Shayne) Hunsaker, and Amy (Bret) Albrecht. She also loved her 25 precious grandbabies who she just adored. She is preceded in death by her late husband Ralph Lassiter, Glenn Lay (father), Bellrae Hendrix (mother), and David Lay (brother). Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 24th, at 11:00 am, at the Mapleton LDS Chapel, 475 North 1600 West, Mapleton, Utah, where a Visitation will be held prior to services from 9:00 to 10:30 am. Interment in Springville City Cemetery. Funeral Directors: Utah Valley Mortuary.
