Marlene Rosen

July 8, 1932 - September 26, 2015

Marlene Allen Rosen, age 83, of Provo, Utah, went on to her heavenly reward on September 26, 2015. She was born in Nampa, Idaho, July 8, 1932, first child of Clyde Lowell and Beulah Ravenscraft Allen. She attended schools in Vale, Oregon, and then made her way to Provo, the first girl from her high school to attend Brigham Young University; she received her BS degree in home economics in 1954. It was at BYU that she met her eternal companion, Harold Earl Rosen; they were married in the Salt Lake Temple during their junior year. They had five children: Hal, David, Mark, Sylvia and Phillip. Following Harold’s discharge from the Air Force (Korean War), they returned from Alaska for further studies at BYU and the University of Oregon. In 1963, Harold joined the faculty of BYU and they made their home in Provo for the next 52 years. Marlene taught clothing classes in Provo Adult Education and then taught 22 years with BYU’s Department of Clothing and Textiles. She served faithfully as teacher and leader in LDS ward positions and was a loyal supporter of BYU Women, including service as president of that organization. From 1970 to 1989, she accompanied her husband in service to the university in five Study Abroad programs in Spain, which included tours of Western Europe. From 1990 to 2003, they served four missions for the LDS Church in Spain, Central America and Chile. Marlene was a dedicated worker in the Provo, Guatemala City and Santiago, Chile Temples. She enjoyed gardening, hiking, traveling, and spending time with family. She leaves a legacy of teaching and individual care for those she loved and served. Marlene was preceded in death by her brother Earl and sister Myrna and by her daughter Sylvia. She is survived by her husband Harold, sister Vella Palmer [Boise, Idaho], brother Dale Allen [Vale, Oregon], and four sons: Hal (Diane) [SLC], David (Phyllis) [Provo], Mark (Mary Ellen) [Murray], and Phillip (Karley) [Provo], twenty-one grandchildren, and twenty-seven great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held Monday, October 5th, at 11:00 am, at the Pleasant View 5th Ward, 2400 North 1060 East, Provo, Utah, where Viewings will be held on Sunday, October 4th, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and prior to services on Monday from 9:30 am to 10:30 am. Interment in the Provo East Lawn Memorial Hills Cemetery.
