May Atkin
May 9, 1919 - March 5, 2015
May Atkin died at home on March 5, 2015 at the age of 95 from natural causes. She was born May 9, 1919 in Minersville, Utah to Preston Neece and Amy Stoddard. She had six sisters and four brothers. She attended school at Minersville Elementary and Beaver High School. May married Enos Atkin and they were blessed with four children: Dorothy (Dale) Slater, Jerry (Lois) Atkin, Neil (Katie) Atkin and Marilyn Atkin (Randy Brumley). Along with her husband, May owned and operated a dairy and creamery in Beaver, Utah. May was always a very hard worker and the creamery was extremely had work every day of the week, with no days off. After relocating to Salt Lake City with her children, she worked at the Tax Commission, the Hotel Utah and at several different restaurants-often holding down two jobs at the same time. One of the highlights in her life was going to lunch with lifelong friends that she made while working at the Hotel Utah. May loved her family and extended family and spent as much time as possible with them. From her father, she learned to use humor to offset adversity and was always quick with a joke or a story to tell. She was an excellent cook and loved to cook, garden, crochet and watch the Utah Jazz! Along with her sister, Lorelei, she found time to sing with the Salt Lake Chapter of the Sweet Adelines. She made friends easily and in her later years she loved to walk around the neighborhood with some of her closest friends. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. At the age of 90 she went to the temple and received her own endowments. May was preceded in death by three of her children: Dorothy, Jerry and Neil. She is survived by her daughter Marilyn and one sister, Yvonne Dea, both of West Valley City, Utah; 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. Funeral Services for May will be held Tuesday, March 10th, at 11:30 am, at the LDS Chapel, 4251 South 4800 West, West Valley City, Utah, where a Viewing will be held prior from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. Interment in Pleasant Green Cemetery, Magna, Utah.
