Michael Charles Winder
October 8, 1960 - February 11, 2018
Michael Charles Winder passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at his home in Eagle Mountain, Utah after an extended battle with cancer. Michael was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on October 8, 1960 to Richard Parry Winder and RoseMarie Morelly Winder. He joined his older brother Richard Parry Winder II and a sister, Kathryn Ann Winder, would follow 3 years later. Michael was raised in Dunwoody, Georgia where he was active in football, and wrestling. At 19, Michael chose to serve a mission and was called to serve a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Colorado Denver Spanish Speaking Mission. He had many spiritual experiences that strengthened his testimony of the life and teachings of the Savior Jesus Christ, the Restoration of the Gospel and the power of the Priesthood. After his mission, he returned to Provo, Utah where he met his future wife Marji Chavez. After a short courtship, they were married in the Los Angeles Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on February 26, 1982. Together, they have four children; Mike, Jason, Jennifer, and Kyle. Michael worked diligently to provide a good life for his family. He supported his children in various sporting, band, and dance events as they were growing up. He set a positive example to his family of service to others. His courage and perseverance, especially during the numerous battles with cancer set a tremendous example to those that knew him. His career path in Recreation, Insurance, and as a Corporate Educator provided new opportunities all over the country. He enjoyed these opportunities and used them to grow and develop his teaching skills. He applied this same diligence to a lifetime of serving in various church callings. He was always willing to serve his fellow man. He loved many outdoor activities including; camping, hunting, fly fishing, and hiking. In 2015 he accomplished a lifelong dream to take a hunting trip to Africa. Running and biking are two other reactional activities that he enjoyed. He completed 3 marathons, the last one after enduring many cancer surgeries, and chemotherapy treatments. He is survived by his wife, Marji Winder; children: Mike (Julie); Jason (Karren); Jennifer; and Kyle; Mother, RoseMarie Winder; Brother, Parry (Connie); Sister, Kathryn Parry (Charles), 1 grandson, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father; Richard Parry Winder and his father in law Vincente Leonardo Chavez. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 24th at 10:00 am at the Meadow Ranch 1st Ward, 3382 East Spring Mountain Drive, Eagle Mountain, Utah, where Viewings will be held Friday, February 23rd from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and prior to Services on Saturday from 9:00 to 9:45 am. Interment in Pony Express Memorial Cemetery, 4647 North Eagle Mountain Blvd., Eagle Mountain, Utah. Funeral Directors: Utah Valley Mortuary.
