Raymond C Wimmer

January 16, 1949 - March 15, 2015

ALS takes the music out of life ~ Raymond Charles (“Ray”) Wimmer was born Jan 16, 1949 in American Fork, Utah to Leland Pulley and Evelyn Merikofer Wimmer. He passed away from ALS (Lou Gehrig’s) on Sunday, March 15, 2015 at 6 p.m. at home surrounded by friends and family. He attended local schools where he enjoyed the challenges of sports of all types and after graduation worked for a time in construction. Ray joined the Utah Army National Guard and was offered a position at the Pentagon on active duty which led to a 20 year career. While on this tour of active duty he met his wife Patricia who was also on active duty. They married at Ft. Gillem, GA April 3rd, 1982 in a traditional military wedding ceremony. Upon leaving active duty he worked as a civilian contractor at Ft. McPherson, GA prior to returning to northern Virginia where he was employed and eventually retired from Pragmatics, Inc. after several serious health issues, the most serious being the dreaded ALS. Per Ray’s wishes his body was donated to the University of Utah Neurosciences Center. Accomplishments include Eagle Scout Award and many Military and Civilian awards for superior service. Ray was an avid lover of Mount Timpanogoes and fell in love with the views of the mountains and Utah Lake from the home in Pleasant Grove where they had moved only two years ago. Ray and Pat had traveled extensively after living in areas of the East and South and enjoyed the excitement of seeing the country in their motor home where there were many opportunities to see old friends and family and make an untold number of new friends who often came to see them in Pleasant Grove after traveling was no longer an option due to his health. One of Ray’s greatest pleasures in life was the Helping Others First program they did together to bring sunshine to those in need. He was a generous and caring man of great faith and a Washington Redskins and University of Utah fan forever! Ray is survived by his wife (Pat), parents Leland and Evelyn Wimmer (American Fork) son Eric (Jenny), grandchildren Parker, Chloee and Olivia (American Fork), step-daughters Lynne (South Dakota), Teresa (Pleasant Grove), step-grandchildren Shane Hutton, Clay Neely, Libby Gruhler, Stephanie Corbin, Melissa Corbin, Johnathon Corbin, Brother Sheldon (Mary), Alpine, Sister Dorilynn Roberts, Lehi, sister-in-law Linda Wimmer, many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family and friends across the country. Services will he held Tuesday, March 24th, at 2:30 p.m., at Utah Veterans Memorial Park Chapel, 17111 Camp Williams Road, Bluffdale, Utah. Family will receive friends from 1:30 till time of services. Interment to follow. Luncheon for family provided courtesy of Grove Creek 8th Ward. A Life Celebration and Open House will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2015, at 899 East 1150 North, Pleasant Grove, Utah, from 5 to 8 p.m. A light supper will be provided.
